The Home Depot announced Thursday it plans to expand operations in Jasper and three other South Carolina counties.
The company said it is growing its supply chain and distribution operations in Jasper, Charleston, Greenville and Lexington counties. The expansion will create almost 100 new jobs, including 14 in Jasper County.
“We are thrilled that The Home Depot, a nationally and internationally recognized company, is the latest company to invest in operations at the Riverport Commerce Park in Jasper County,” County Council chair Barbara Clark said. “The company will be a great addition at this growing industrial park, which is perfect for distribution, just minutes from the Port of Savannah and the future Jasper Ocean Terminal.”
In Jasper County, the company will add a new distribution center at RiverPort Commerce Park in Hardeeville. A news release said the Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $100,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to assist with costs related to the project.
“The City of Hardeeville is proud to welcome Home Depot to our community,” Hardeeville Mayor Harry Williams said. “Home Depot brings to Hardeeville a quality corporate reputation and quality jobs and we look forward to a long and successful relationship between our family and theirs.”
The first announcement about Home Depot bringing jobs to Jasper County was made in February when officials announced RiverPort Commerce Park would soon have its first tenant.
SouthernCarolina Regional Development Alliance officials told Jasper County Council that Home Depot planned to occupy 50,000 square feet of Building One in the park near Interstate 95 and U.S. 17. The building has a total of 150,000 square feet.
At the time, a company spokesperson said the facility “is part of our strategic investment in our supply chain network to offer same day/next day delivery to 90 percent of the United States.”
The Home Depot said its South Carolina expansion will help it meet growing demand and bring faster delivery to the region.
The company said hiring is ongoing for warehouse and driver roles as its supply chain expansion continues. Those interested in the positions should go to careers.homedepot.com or text JOBS to 52270.
“SouthernCarolina Alliance welcomes The Home Depot to our manufacturing and distribution community,” alliance chair Marty Sauls said. “We believe that this announcement is one of many more to come as companies from around the globe see the benefits of Jasper County in terms of workforce, business environment and proximity to I-95 and major seaports.”
