A 68-year-old Massachusetts psychologist is charged with possessing child pornography after hundreds of images were discovered by a contractor while renovating his apartment, the Essex County District Attorney’s Office said. Mark Ternullo was arraigned on one count of possession of child pornography in Salem District Court on Thursday. The Essex Assistant District Attorney’s Office said Danvers police were contacted on Wednesday by the owner of the multi-family home which Ternullo was allegedly living in for over two decades. The building owner told police that while a contractor she hired was renovating the bathroom in the defendant’s apartment, they had to remove the wall behind the bathtub due to extensive water damage. Once removed, the contractor found a hidden room in which multiple boxes full of pornographic images of children were stored, the DA’s office said. According to investigators, police were contacted and obtained a search warrant Wednesday morning and arrested Ternullo later that evening. Bail for Ternullo was set at $10,000, the DA’s office said. The Salem News reported that Ternullo had worked at a number of schools and community organizations in the early 2000s.A pre-trial conference in the case was scheduled for March 7, prosecutors said.
